Laptops for children
As part of a wider council offer we are supplying refurbished laptops to children across Bristol schools. This page details important information on keeping your child safe online.
Laptop provision
Sanctuary Services and Employment Skills and Learning are working together to support sanctuary seekers in secondary school or FE college to access refurbished laptops to support their learning in and out of school.
Eligible children and young people can be:
- living in asylum accommodation,
- part of a resettlement programme
- part of the homes for Ukraine programme
- living in Bristol with No Recourse to Public Funds
The children and young people need to be in full time education and have regularly attended for at least 3 months.
The laptops will become the property and responsibility of the child, although faulty (not damaged) equipment will be replaced up to 12 months after being provided.
Parents will need to sign a terms and conditions statement, including taking responsibility for their child’s online safety. To support this, information on how to set up parental controls and information on how to keep children safe will be made available and translated where required.
Using your device
As part of this project we are providing two different types of device. For older students we are issuing Windows laptops with copies of Microsoft Office. For younger students we are providing Google Chrome laptops.
Keeping safe
When your receive a device it comes with some general guidance on safe use. Sadly, we cannot provide additional safety tools due to cost, but we can provide you with recommendations to keep you safe on the internet:
