This course (based 100% outside in Water Vole Woodland) introduces participants to carrying out woodland maintenance, conservation and bush craft tasks safely. The course is aimed at people who are looking to develop practical skills and gain knowledge of woodlands, as well as those who are looking for new and positive opportunities to engage in their community. At the end of the course opportunities exist for participants to use and develop their skills further  at the farm.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Learn new skills e.g. coppicing, using willow, making a fire safely, making useful knots
  • Explore benefits of nature/being outdoors
  • Find out about local activities/volunteering outdoors
  • Use knots and natural materials to make a shelter
  • Use natural materials to make a fire
  • Identify common woodland trees
  • Use harvested materials to make something
  • Use tools safely

The course will run weekly – every Thursday – from 17th February to 31st March 2022

To be eligible for this course, you must be an adult (19+) with few or no formal qualifications.
