The course will provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment where adults can develop sewing skills, create a simple garment, and build confidence at their own pace. Learners will share ideas in a culturally sensitive setting that values diversity.

Learning outcomes include:

• Name five parts of a sewing machine and describe their function
• Use a sewing machine safely
• Measure their body and draw the measurements on paper
• Follow a pattern and cut fabric with confidence, leaving space for seams
• Identify different fabrics and select appropriate fabric for different projects
• Make a garment of their choice
• Develop functional skills through writing, speaking, measuring, calculating
• Develop a bank of sewing-related words

The course will run – every Wednesday – 9th September  –  18th November 2026. The course will not run on 28th October 2026

This course is open to learners aged 19 years plus (in August ’26 with few or no qualifications would like to develop their domestic sewing skills and explore progression opportunities.
