Introduction to Community Gardening

A free and friendly course to learn new skills, meet people and grow edible plants. You will create a community garden , develop valuable skills such as preparing soil, identifying plants and sowing seeds and get support for finding work/volunteering/further training
Learning Outcomes:
- To develop practical growing skills — learners will learn to grow, tend and harvest seasonal food crops, gaining hands-on experience
- To connect local people with Grow Wilder and its mission — learners will develop an understanding of sustainable, wildlife-friendly growing practices
- To build community through shared growing and cooking — learners will work together to care for the Grow Wilder beds, making collective decisions about what to grow and cook, developing confidence, wellbeing and social connection
- To create a pathway into ongoing community growing — learners will finish the course equipped with the knowledge, skills and relationships to continue growing independently, feeding into the Grow Wilder Grow It Keep It programme and future accredited horticulture learning on site if chosen
This course will take place on Thursdays – 24th September – 22nd October 2026
This course is open to learners with few or no qualifications aged 19 years plus (in August ’26)
