Create healthy menus and improve your cooking skills to make tasty, balanced meals. Course will have a mix of cooking, information, discussion and activities to help you improve skills and health. Taught face-to-face and resources available online.

Improve your health and wellbeing by learning to research, plan and cook a healthy, balanced diet and through learning, explore progression routes to courses and volunteering.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe and demonstrate how to accurately read food labels.
  • List and identify the five food groups and practice how to divide food into groups.
  • Identify body mass index calculations and explain why it is important to know this.
  • Follow step-by-step recipe sheets accurately and safely whilst cooking.
  • Describe how the traffic label system works.
  • Identify the correct food portion daily amounts from the individual food groups.
  • Demonstrate how to reduce fats, salts and sugar in our diets and recognise what foods contain this.
  • Research online and discuss the benefits of healthy eating and a more active lifestyle.

This course is open to all learners aged 19+

The course will run weekly – every Friday – from 23rd April to 28th May 2021
