Cooking Connections – Beginnings

This course will provide hands-on cooking experience by cooking healthy recipes each week that you can recreate at home.  We will provide support, if needed, tailored to your individual requirements so that you can successfully make delicious food every time. The environment is friendly and we will share food every week while talking about what we have made – or you can take it home.  This course is ideal for people lacking confidence in the kitchen but who would like to know more about cooking from scratch and developing a healthier diet.

The course will create a friendly, supportive group in which to practise cooking from scratch and explore healthy, economical food using a variety of cooking techniques.

Learning objectives include:

  • Develop cooking skills by building on individual prior learning and experience in the kitchen
  • Use a knife safely using recognised techniques
  • Know how to work safely in a kitchen and understand some food hygiene rules
  • Develop transferable skills for employment such as working in a team and self-confidence
  • Understand what a healthy diet means, including the Eatwell Guide and 5-a-day
  • Taste and work with a wide variety of ingredients

The course is aimed at learners (aged 19+) with mental health issues, learning disabilities or who would benefit from a friendly accessible course in a small group with individualised attention.

The course will run weekly – every Monday – from 13th May to 22nd July 2019
