Basic DIY and Woodwork [Online]

Free online theory-based course, involving live discussion and short pre-filmed videos and photographs; any tasks will be carried out in between sessions at home. Includes learning about basic woodworking tools useful for putting up pictures and shelves. Get some support for your small woodwork project at home.

Learning objectives include:

  • Recognise and explain the use of some basic woodworking hand tools.
  • Demonstrate increased confidence enough to practice using a saw at home.
  • Describe how a cordless drill works.
  • Demonstrate increased confidence to safely drill holes into timber, plasterboard and masonry at home.
  • Identify and explain the process of scribing a length of shelving for a better fit.

This course is aimed at learners (aged 19+) with few or no qualifications and are in receipt of benefits or working on low income.

The course will take place weekly – every Tuesday – from 30th June to 14th July 2020
