Transgender week

12th November 2025

To continue embedding our trans allyship throughout Community Learning,  I wanted to highlight that tomorrow (Thurs 13th) marks the beginning of Transgender Awareness Week (13-19 November), a week to celebrate and raise awareness of trans+ identities.

The week also culminates on Thursday 20 November with Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR), where we take time to remember and honour those transgender individuals who have lost their lives in the past year to violence and discrimination.

  • Trans Pride Bristol are holding their annual vigil at 7.30pm on Thursday 20 November at St George’s, which is located just off Park Street. More information can be found on their website. The transgender flag will be flying outside of City Hall on this day at 10am, if you would like to join the LGBT+ staff-led group.
  • North Somerset LGBT+ Forum: This local charity runs community projects and wellbeing events across the North Somerset area, including social nights. While a specific TDoR vigil hasn’t been detailed beyond general community events, they are a key local contact for LGBTQ+ events. You can check their social media channels or contact them directly for any potential dedicated TDoR events they may be organising in towns like Weston-super-Mare or Clevedon.

Our LGBT+ staff-led group wanted to take this opportunity to remind colleagues about displaying your pronouns in email signatures and on teams, if this is something you feel comfortable doing. Correctly using someone’s pronouns is one of the most basic ways to show that we value being inclusive and respectful, and adding yours can help create an environment where everyone can thrive.
