Video chat

For tutors delivering lessons online we recommend using Google Meet as the basis of your lessons. You can easily setup a video chat (providing your device has a camera, of course) and send invites to others. Your students don’t even need to setup an account and can talk to you by voice or through text chat. If your students feel uncomfortable they can easily join without showing their video. Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a free resource that allows you to set work for your students and makes it easy to mark the work that they have done. Many of our tutors make use of this as a teaching aid and your DW can put you in touch with other tutors to support you in getting started. Learners will need a Google account to join your class, this is quite easy to setup, and they will have an option to use an existing email address.

Google Chat

All of our ESL staff with @communitylearningwest.net email accounts. This will give you access to the Google Chat online meeting system. Using Chat is very simple and there is a short video below running through the basics. Coronavirus 16th March

We are continuing to monitor the situation and follow the guidance of the central government and Bristol City Council. Some of our ESOL Conversation Clubs have been cancelled, please visit the ESOL CC webpage for up to date details. Obviously if you think you meet the criteria for self-isolation you should contact 111 and not attend your class.” The NHS site now says to go online and only call 111 if symptoms are severe or you are feeling you are unable to cope.
