Enterprise Sewing

By the end of this course learners shall be competent in using a sewing machine to create textile items for themselves, their families & friends or for sale commercially. Learners shall develop  practical and theoretical transferable skills which can be used in future employment as well as in a small self employed context. Learning outcomes include:

  • Use a sewing machine according to Health & Safety guidelines
  • Work with others as part of a team
  • Calculate cost of production of at least one textile item
  • Calculate profit margins of items for sale
  • Use problem solving skills to repair machine malfunctions as they occur
  • Produce at least one textile item to a high finish which could go on sale

This course is aimed at long-term unemployed, women returners and people with mild mental health issues with potential progression into paid employment/volunteer role or college place.

The course will run weekly on a Monday ending 23rd April 2018
